New Chapter: Season of the Worm Cult – Part 1
Update 46 introduces the first installment of the 2025 content pass with “Season of the Worm Cult: Part 1,” launching June 2 on PC/Mac and June 18 on consoles. This chapter introduces a multi-part story arc featuring the return of the Worm Cult. Expect dark rituals, new factions, immersive narrative choices, and major endgame events culminating in Q4’s server-wide Worldling Wall event.
New Zone: Western Solstice
Explore Western Solstice, a lush, necromantic Argonian island in southern Black Marsh. The zone features five main objectives, three world bosses, new public dungeons, crafting stations, and tons of side quests. The area serves as the new hub for the Season of the Worm Cult storyline.
New 12-Player Trial: Oian Cage
Located in Southern Solstice, Oian Cage is a challenging 12-player trial featuring Normal and Veteran difficulties. Players can earn four new gear sets (2 light, 1 medium, 1 heavy), plus unique skins, mounts, and housing rewards. Expect chaotic magic, hidden artifacts, and a deep narrative tied to Mannimarco’s lost vaults.
Subclassing System (Base Game Feature)
Subclassing allows players to swap a class skill line with one from another class, adding hybrid build potential. Unlocking requires level 50 in both the primary and secondary classes. Subclassed skill lines require two skill points per skill. This system opens up creative builds while keeping progression account-wide.
Combat and Class Balance Changes
Major balance updates are coming, particularly for Nightblade (PvE underperformer, PvP overperformer). Classes with strong single skill lines (e.g., Templar, Nightblade, Arcanist) will benefit most from subclassing. Expect ongoing adjustments as new metas emerge post-patch.
Quality of Life (QoL) Improvements
A new “Hero’s Return” feature helps returning players get back on track. Stackable master writs reduce inventory clutter. The UI is being modernized for easier navigation. These updates target both new and returning players to improve onboarding and gameplay fluidity.
New Gear Sets
Overland Sets:
Medium – Death Dancer: Reduces core ability costs below 50% stamina; boosts critical chance above.
Heavy – Block Buff: Enhanced block mitigation and cost reduction with a food buff.
Light – Magicka Recovery: Scales magicka recovery with max magicka.
Craftable Sets:
Fellowship’s Fortitude: Excellent tank set with Major Protection.
Shared Burden: Transfers damage to companion and auto-revives them.
Tideborn Windstalker: Boosts direct damage to monsters.
New Mythic Items
Roll Dodge Boots: Triggers random effects while dodging.
Mono Myth Reforge Ring: Provides offensive buffs on main bar and defensive buffs on back bar.
Heavy Attack Shoulders: Amplifies heavy attack damage while sacrificing recovery.
These items introduce high-risk, high-reward mechanics ideal for one-bar builds and PvP flexibility.
Housing System Updates
ESO housing sees a major improvement with the addition of a furnishing vault and improved retrieve-to placement functionality, making home design and management more intuitive for decorators.
Console Add-On Support (In Development)
Console players can finally look forward to add-on support, a long-requested feature. This massive change will bring Xbox and PlayStation closer to PC’s enhanced QoL experience through add-on functionality.
